Autumn always arrived early at Yale.
In October, the maple trees of New Haven were already ablaze with fiery reds and golds. The spires of the old Gothic buildings pierced the brilliant blue sky like a row of fingers pointing towards eternity.
I arrived at the law school library an hour early.
At this time of day, most students were in class. The reading room was quiet, with only a few people hunched over their laptops, rushing to finish papers.
