"Explain this. Found a new client already?"
Cassia's words were exceptionally cruel.
Kaelen looked at her, wondering why he had ever loved her so much, what it was he had loved about her.
"She's a senior from my university. We just happened to run into each other today," Kaelen explained.
Cassia sneered. "A senior? More like an old flame, I'd imagine."
Kaelen couldn't believe it. Just because she had a childhood sweetheart, she assumed everyone in the world was like her.
"Believe it or not, there's no need to insult me."
"Insult you?"
Cassia's eyes were filled with contempt. "You're getting more and more insolent. What, have I been too good to you lately?"
She rose on her toes and sealed his lips with her own.
Kaelen tried to resist, but Cassia bit down hard.
The taste of blood instantly filled both their mouths.
Kaelen trembled from the pain.
But Cassia didn't stop, her assault relentless and punishing.
Kaelen didn't understand. She clearly disliked him, so why could she still be so intimate with him?
He didn't know when it ended.
Cassia was fully dressed, looking down at him coldly.
"I'm going on a business trip tomorrow. You'd better show up for work at The Gilded Orchid. My money doesn't grow on trees, after all. The Thorne family doesn't support freeloaders."
Kaelen lay on the bed, silent.
...
Cassia's commands were absolute. Kaelen knew that even if he didn't go to The Gilded Orchid, her men would force him.
During the days Cassia was away, Kaelen had to go to the club every night.
Though he didn't have to entertain clients like the other male models, he was made to serve drinks and wait on tables like a common busboy.
Two months later.
Kaelen was carrying a tray of drinks into a private room. Just as he set it down, the wealthy women and socialites who recognized him began to taunt him.
"Well, if it isn't the great young master of the Rivers family? How did you end up working in a place like this?"
Now, Kaelen had no one to back him up, no power, nothing.
He couldn't afford to offend these people. He lowered his head, wanting to leave.
But they had come specifically to humiliate him. One of them blocked his path.
"Kaelen Rivers, you used to be so high and mighty, didn't you? Looked down on all of us. Now that you've married Cassia Thorne, you must regret it, don't you?"
Kaelen’s gaze remained fixed on the floor. He couldn't answer.
Did he regret it? Of course. But what good was regret now?
The woman saw his silence and ran a slender finger down his handsome cheek. "Is Cassia not giving you any money? I'll give you money. Sleep with me for one night, how about it?"
The others in the room hooted with laughter.
Kaelen’s pupils constricted. He dodged her touch and stumbled backward. "Ma'am, please have some self-respect."
"Self-respect? You work in a place like this, and you're telling *me* to have self-respect?"
The woman was relentless. She threw her arms around him and tilted her head up to kiss him.
Kaelen struggled desperately, pushing her away and running for the door.
Seeing this, the woman and her friends gave chase.
Kaelen's body was already weak. He was no match for them. He hadn't run far before they caught him.
He looked around for help and saw Cassia, who was supposed to be out of town, walking in with several clients.
"Cassia!"
Kaelen screamed her name.
The women holding him froze the moment they saw Cassia, ready to flee.
Kaelen thought he was saved, but then he saw Cassia cast a cold, indifferent glance in his direction.
"He's an employee of The Gilded Orchid. You can play with him however you want."
