Love against the wind

Chapter 6

Every word on the screen was like a sharp blade stabbing into her heart.

She couldn't bear to read anymore. She turned off the screen and lay on her side.

She looked around the house they were in. When they bought it, Julian hadn't hesitated to have the deed put in her name, saying it was a gift for her.

At the time, she thought it was too much and refused, but he had been so sincere. He said he wanted to give her a sense of security, a home.

Now she realized he had never intended to marry her. The house was just his way of paying her off in advance.

The next day, when Sienna woke up and went downstairs, Julian was heading out with a thermos. In the kitchen, an unwashed soup pot sat on the stove. It looked like he had been up early making soup.

He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, a pampered young master who had never cooked a day in his life.

But for Quinn, a man with such a fixation on cleanliness was willing to step into the kitchen.

Seeing Sienna, Julian looked a little guilty. "The butler brought this over from the family estate. My parents heard Quinn was hurt, so they want me to take some soup to her."

He was usually so composed, but now he couldn't even lie convincingly. The mess in the kitchen was irrefutable proof.

Sienna didn't call him out. She just nodded.

The moment he left, she contacted a real estate agent.

She was going to sell the house. Since he gave it to her, she could do whatever she wanted with it.

He wanted to give her a breakup fee? Fine. She would take the money and grant him his wish.

For the next few days, he was likely busy taking care of Quinn, so he didn't come home once.

This made it easier for her to arrange for the agent to show the house. The villa was in a prime location with a great layout, so it wasn't hard to sell. A buyer quickly made an offer.

After signing the contract, Sienna stood up to see the agent and the buyer out, just as Julian returned.

He saw the car driving away and a flicker of suspicion crossed his eyes.

"Who were those people?"

She calmly put away the documents, answering nonchalantly, "The computer at home is broken. I had someone come take a look."

Julian didn't think much of it. He just pulled a gift out of his pocket and placed it in front of her.

"I haven't been spending much time with you lately, so I bought you a gift. Do you like it?"

He was always like this, using gifts to appease her, as if that could make her forget everything and go back to how things were.

This time, he was probably here about Quinn again.

Sure enough, after she accepted the gift, he spoke again.

"Tomorrow is Quinn's birthday. She's throwing a party. She wanted to thank you for donating blood, so she invited you too."

Sienna frowned. "Do I have to go?"

He paused, looking a little surprised, then gently caressed her face. "Sienna, she means well. It's not like she's forcing you to go, but I hope you will. You understand, right?"

The implication was clear. She had to go.

She forced a smile. "I understand."
