Love against the wind

Chapter 4

The forceful push sent Sienna stumbling back several steps before she managed to regain her balance.

She watched as Julian anxiously helped Quinn to her feet, his eyes filled with concern. When his gaze shifted to her, it was like a raging fire.

"Sienna, what the hell did you do!"

She fought to control her emotions, trying to explain. "I didn't touch her. She fell on her own. You can check the security cameras if you don't believe me."

Seeing her calm composure only fueled his rage. "I know what kind of person Quinn is. I know her better than I know you."

"Apologize!"

She stared at him, resolute. "I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?"

This time, Julian was truly furious. His face darkened, like a sky about to unleash a storm.

"I said, apologize to Quinn!"

Sienna was stunned. She knew that if she didn't apologize today, Julian would never let her leave.

In that instant, a tidal wave of indescribable emotions crashed over her. She didn't want to get into a pointless fight. After a long moment, a laugh escaped her lips.

"Fine. I'm sorry. I was wrong. Is that what you want to hear?"

She was wrong.

Wrong to have fallen in love with him.

Wrong to have let him use her body for seven years for free.

Wrong to have shamelessly proposed 100 times.

Wrong to have only woken up now.

Julian, I was so, so wrong.

After apologizing, she didn't spare them another glance and turned to walk away.

For the next few days, Julian didn't come home.

But news of him and Quinn came flooding in nonstop.

Because every day, Quinn would post an update.

"Julian is so sweet to an old classmate like me. He knew I love pastries from that one exclusive downtown bakery and actually stood in line for three hours to buy them for me."

"Thank you for the gift, Julian. I love it."

The accompanying photo was of a massive bouquet of red roses and a diamond necklace.

Mutual friends flooded the comments.

"There aren't many good men like Julian left in this world. You need to lock that down, Quinn!"

"Exactly! Everyone knows you two were the golden couple, a match made in heaven. No one is more perfect for each other!"

"Julian doesn't do this for just anyone, you know. Quinn, you're the special one."

And under every single post, Julian would leave a 'like'.

Sienna opened Quinn's profile and, at the top of her feed, clicked the two words: Mute User.

A few days later, Julian suddenly came home.

She was in the middle of packing up her things, throwing out all the gifts he had ever given her.

Seeing the scene, Julian panicked and grabbed her hand. "What are you doing?"

Sienna brushed him off with a casual excuse. "These things are old. They're just taking up space."

Julian assumed she was still angry about what happened at the party and quickly pulled a box from his pocket.

"Sienna, this is a gift for you. Please don't be angry anymore, okay?"

"At the party that day, Quinn had a severe allergic reaction to the alcohol. Our families grew up together, and our parents always told me to take care of her. I couldn't just let her end up in the hospital, could I?"

"The reason I was so forceful about you apologizing was because she was genuinely hurt. You're my girlfriend. You can understand, right?"

Sienna was confused. She didn't understand why he was suddenly being so attentive.

Ever since Quinn had returned, all his focus had been on her.

She astutely pushed him away. "Did something happen?"

Julian just remained silent. After a moment, he took her hand and looked at her intently.

"Sienna… Quinn had an accident. She's injured. She has a blood clotting disorder, and she's bleeding uncontrollably. She needs a transfusion, but her blood type is rare. You're the only match."
