The doctors gently helped us up and pulled the white sheet over Olivia's face.
Mark collapsed and was inconsolable, tears streaming. He was close to fainting.
Nurses were preparing to move Olivia to the morgue. Mark followed, stumbling along, his world collapsing, unable to accept what had happened.
I collapsed in the waiting room.
After a while, I pulled myself together, wanting to check on Mark.
As I turned, I saw David.
He was supporting Ashley, and I saw a tenderness in his eyes I'd never seen before.
The sight of David and Ashley was like a blade cutting through my heart again.
I was filled with anger, disappointment, and confusion. I could barely breathe.
David finally saw me, and the tenderness in his eyes was replaced by coldness and disgust.
"Sarah, what are you doing here?" David's voice was full of annoyance. "Look at Ashley, her hand is hurt because you ran and scared her!"
I glared at him, my voice filled with sadness. "I came here for Olivia!"
"Sarah, that's enough! I'm not going to listen to you anymore. You and Olivia are making it out like you're cursed!" David's face was twisted in anger.
Ashley was still acting innocent, leaning on David. "David, don't be mad at Sarah. She cares so much about you. It's all my fault. I upset her..."
Seeing her fake sincerity, my anger erupted. Olivia's death was because of her. I could not control my anger anymore.
I raised my hand to give her a lesson. David grabbed my arm, and threw me aside, and I fell on the floor.
"Sarah, are you insane? Ashley's hurt! You are evil!" David's words were like a knife, cutting into my heart.
I was ready to fight, when a figure appeared and punched David, knocking him to the ground, his face turning black and blue.
It was Mark, his face full of anger.
Ashley was horrified, crying, "Who are you? Why would you hit him!"
David was stunned, looking at Mark. "Mark, what are you doing? What's wrong with you?"
Mark's eyes were filled with fury. "Do you even realize what happened? I've tried and tried to contact you, and Sarah tried to contact you, and you never came!"
