Suddenly, an out-of-control motorcycle came rushing toward us.
It was too fast. Before I could react, Ethan instinctively pulled me into his arms.
We just managed to avoid the collision.
"Claire, don't be afraid."
I froze.
The next second, Lily's crying reached us.
"Ethan, it hurts so much."
He immediately let go of me and rushed toward Lily.
The force of his push made me stumble into a stone bench by the roadside. My palm scraped and blood seeped out.
I endured the pain and steadied myself, only to see Ethan had already taken Lily in his arms.
His eyes were red with panic.
"Lily, I'll take you to the hospital right away. When I find that motorcyclist, I'll make him pay for this and apologize to you!"
The stinging pain in my palm came in waves. I stood silently in place, watching Ethan carry Lily away in a hurry.
I laughed, tears hanging at the corners of my eyes.
I was the person his first instinct was to protect, but not his final choice.
If he couldn't be consistent, then I'd rather not have it at all.
Never, ever again.
Soon it was the wedding day.
The Weston family chartered a private jet to escort the bride.
Sophie came to see me off, her eyes red.
"Claire, I can't bear to see you go, but this is your choice, and I support you."
"Don't worry, I won't let that heartless bastard have it easy. After you leave, I'll definitely send them a big gift they'll never forget!"
I smiled slightly, no longer feeling sad.
Today was the last day. Everything about Ethan had become very blurry.
Soon, it would all be completely forgotten.
As the car passed by my house, I saw through the window that the Rivera family's wedding convoy was lined up like a long dragon.
He wore a handsome suit, carefully helping Lily into the wedding car with incredibly gentle movements.
"Lily, be careful not to bump your head."
In our past life, he had treated me the same way.
Back then, he was high-spirited, carefully leading me to the wedding car, his eyes full of love.
"Claire, if you got hurt, I'd be heartbroken."
Seeing him perform these loving gestures again in this life, exactly the same as he'd done for me in the past.
He said it was just an act, but he'd probably gotten so caught up in it that he didn't even realize.
People around were happily blessing them.
I also said softly, "Then I wish that you and I never meet again in this life, and that we each find peace."
When Ethan and Lily's wedding car turned the corner, it passed by the car taking me to the airport.
He glanced up casually and thought the figure in the car looked somewhat familiar. A sense of unease welled up in his heart.
But he quickly calmed down and mocked himself silently.
"How could the one marrying abroad be Claire? She's the heiress of the Caldwell family. Just wait a little longer. After the wedding is over, I'll go get her. For the rest of our lives, I'll never let her down again."
The wedding car arrived at the venue, and he helped Lily out of the car.
For some reason, his heart still felt vaguely uneasy.
Before the wedding began, he called his assistant over.
"Go find out what Claire is doing today and where she went."
The assistant looked confused and answered, "Mr. Rivera, Miss Caldwell married abroad today. The person in that car just now was her. Didn't you know?"
