Chapter 3

A strange numbness washed over Sienna. She hadn’t said a single word since they walked in.

A simple, quiet glance at Bianca was now considered an attack.

Sienna let out a self-mocking laugh, her voice flat.

“Don’t worry. I won’t be around to bother you anymore.”

Kaelan scoffed, unimpressed.

They had broken up before, and Sienna had said similar things. But every time he cut ties with those other women, she would always come back.

He didn't believe for a second that she would actually leave him.

Just as Sienna was about to leave with her suitcase, Kaelan suddenly called out to her.

Sienna stopped.

Kaelan lifted Bianca into his arms, gently placing her on the sofa. He touched her cheek with concern, his voice impossibly soft.

“You’re a little warm. Just lie down for a bit.”

When he looked back at Sienna, his voice dropped ten degrees.

“That hangover cure broth you used to make for me. Make it again.”

Sienna felt a surge of bitter irony. “We’re nothing to each other anymore. What makes you think I’d still cook for you?”

Kaelan let out a soft, mocking laugh, his eyes sweeping over her. The derision was unmistakable.

“I’m not asking you to make it for me. It’s for Bianca. She can’t hold her liquor and took a shot for me earlier.”

“And I’m not asking for a handout. Five grand a bowl.”

Sienna felt a fire ignite in her gut, her stomach churning.

She remembered questioning him about hiring Bianca, asking him why he would hire an assistant who couldn't drink or help him fend off unwanted advances.

What had he said then?

“I’m not so pathetic that I need a woman to take shots for me.”

But when Kaelan was starting his business, it was always Sienna who took those shots for him.

Sienna swallowed the bitter taste in her mouth. “Find someone else.”

It was as if Kaelan expected that answer.

“Do you have any income? I’d hate to see someone who was once with me begging on the streets. I hope your bank account has as much pride as you do.”

Sienna’s lips pressed into a thin line. After a moment’s thought, she turned and walked into the kitchen.

All these years, she had been so busy taking care of him, only taking on small freelance gigs in her spare time. She only had fifty thousand in savings. It wouldn't last long when she moved abroad.

There was no point in fighting with money.

A triumphant glint flashed in Bianca’s eyes. She cooed, “Kael, you’re being too harsh. Sienna isn’t your maid.”

Kaelan waved it off.

“It’s the only thing she’s good for.”

The spoon in Sienna’s hand froze. His words were like a bucket of ice water dumped over her head.

It’s the only thing she’s good for?

The year she graduated, it was Kaelan who promised he would always cherish her.

“I’ll never make you regret choosing me, Sienna.”

Back then, she had believed him. She had chosen to stand behind him, giving up her own career to cook and care for him, only to be dismissed with a single, brutal phrase: “It’s the only thing she’s good for.”

Sienna clenched her jaw, determined to just make the broth and get the hell out.

From the living room, Bianca’s breathless giggle floated in.

“Kael, don’t… Sienna is still in there!”

When Sienna emerged with the bowl, Kaelan was sitting on the sofa, a look of smug satisfaction on his face.

Sienna was about to set the broth down, but Bianca suddenly reached out to take it.
