After returning home, Julian wanted to speed up the moving process.
But with his leg still not fully healed, it was difficult to get around. He ended up hiring a moving company.
Boxes of all sizes were piled up in the living room. Movers were busy packing, carrying things in and out, the front door wide open.
When Helena arrived home to this chaotic scene, she quickly asked what was happening.
Julian delivered the excuse he had prepared.
"The condo at The Esplanade is finally renovated. It's closer to your office, so let's move in there. It'll be more convenient."
Remembering the property document she had signed, Helena nodded.
After changing her shoes, she sat down on the sofa, trying to recall the layout of the new place while making small talk.
"You love gardening, don't you? How about we set aside the east-facing balcony for your plants?"
After a few seconds of silence, Julian spoke softly.
"No need. I've given up that hobby."
Helena's eyes instinctively flickered to the fresh lilies on the table. She had a feeling he wasn't telling the truth.
She was about to press him when she noticed that the boxes the movers were carrying seemed to contain only her belongings. She couldn't help but change the subject.
"Why are they only moving my things? Where's your stuff?"
"It's all been moved already."
His answer was so quick that Helena assumed he meant it had all been moved to the new place. She didn't ask any more questions.
She got up to pour a glass of water, casually giving instructions.
"Please make sure you label all the boxes properly. And don't put them in the wrong rooms when you deliver them."
Julian watched her silently, his gaze flickering. He swallowed the words he wanted to say.
*They won't be in the wrong rooms.*
*Because at the new place, there are only your things.*
Once everything was packed up, Helena helped Julian downstairs.
As they stepped out of the elevator, they ran head-on into Milo Cross and his sister, Ruby. Everyone froze.
Helena hadn't expected this. A flicker of panic crossed her eyes. She let go of Julian's arm and stepped in front of him.
"What are you two doing here?"
Milo raised an eyebrow. "Ruby said she wanted to see your new place. I've never been either, so we got the address from your parents. We wanted to surprise you."
His eyes, however, were locked on Julian.
If he remembered correctly, he'd seen this man at least twice before.
Once at the law firm, and once outside a bar.
A strong sixth sense made him curious about the man's identity. He smiled, testing the waters.
"Helena, who is this gentleman?"
For a rare moment, Helena was silent, as if still deciding how to introduce him.
Julian's face was a mask of calm. He even extended a friendly hand toward Milo.
"Julian Shaw. A college classmate of Ms. Locke's. I'm going through a divorce recently, so I came to an old friend for help. I didn't expect to walk in on her moving. Bad timing."
His words snapped Helena out of her daze. She first shot Julian a guilty look, then went along with his story, introducing everyone.
Though everything seemed normal, Milo still had his doubts.
But with so many people around, he couldn't press further. He urged his sister to help with the move.
Milo then walked over to Julian and struck up a conversation.
"Julian, man, why are you getting a divorce?"
Julian hadn't expected him to be so forward. He was stunned for a few seconds before giving a small smile.
"My wife... she's in love with another man."
