I stared coldly at the card, my mind drifting.
Damian Moretti was always all business. Even our marriage was just another transaction for his family’s benefit.
When we first met, he was always cold and distant. As we got to know each other, he started molding me into a perfect hostess for the Moretti family, training me to be the wife of a mafia boss.
But he forgot one thing. A hostess just needs to be elegant and poised. As his fiancée, I actually loved him.
That’s why I couldn’t be as detached as he was. And I could never accept a third person in our marriage.
Especially not when that third person was Sabrina, the one that got away, the girl he could never have when they were young.
A tear fell onto the back of my hand, snapping me back to reality. I wiped it away, pushed the card back to him, and forced a smile. “No, thank you, Mr. Moretti. We’re not right for each other. It’s better if we go our separate ways.”
No one says no to Damian Moretti twice. He was the king of Wall Street, the future of the Moretti family, a man defined by his pride.
When I insisted on breaking up again, he didn’t hesitate.
“Fine. Just don’t regret it.”
“What’s given is given. I, Damian Moretti, am not so desperate that I need to take back a few gifts.”
I took back my list of assets and picked up the black card as well.
“Good. I won’t regret it.”
“I’ve called my family’s people to come move my things. It might get a little loud later. Sorry for the disturbance.”
Damian lit a cigar, his expression indifferent.
“It’s fine.”
With that, I turned and walked away. I called the Vance family security team.
“Please pack up all of my personal belongings in this apartment.”
In the bedroom, I gathered all my jewelry and put it in the safe, then gave them careful instructions.
“Please be careful. There are fragile items inside.”
Three hours later, the penthouse felt vast and empty.
I took one last look at the place I had called home for three years. From the corner of my eye, I saw Damian leaning against the doorframe, his head down, an unreadable expression on his face.
I wasn’t going to say another goodbye. I turned to leave, but then I saw her.
Sabrina had arrived.
