His Poisoned Love

Chapter 4

My stomach churned.

The man who swore he'd spend his life protecting me had finally let me down.

I didn't go home. Instead, I drove to an event planning company that specialized in large-scale functions.

Next month, this company would be organizing the Moretti family's 20th-anniversary celebration.

To create a surprise, Dante was scheduled to participate in a high-dive performance from the deck of a yacht.

"I want to replace the diver in the performance. I want to surprise my husband."

"Mrs. Moretti, this performance requires professional training. It's very dangerous to do it without preparation," the planning director said, looking concerned.

"Three million dollars. For my private training and for your silence. I'll be here to practice every day."

"Well, since you're so dedicated to surprising him, we'd be happy to help you and Mr. Moretti create a beautiful memory."

"Remember, this is our secret," I said, forcing a stiff smile.

If he was so obsessed with playing the role of the perfect husband, I would let him watch me disappear from this world with his own two eyes.

Dante came home late that night. I was looking over the materials the event company had sent me.

"Darling, the meeting with those old guys ran late. I couldn't get away. Sorry I'm so late."

"What happened to your forehead?"

He leaned in to look at my injury, and the faint mark of a hickey on his collarbone stabbed at my eyes.

I closed my laptop and shoved his hand away in disgust.

"Are you still giving me the silent treatment?"

He pulled a velvet box from his suit pocket. Inside was a custom-made gown worth a fortune.

"I had this designed for you by the ateliers in Paris. I know you'll love it."

I let out a cold laugh. I couldn't believe it had come to this.

He buys Sierra a penthouse apartment and thinks a dress will make things even with me.

It was pathetic. He actually thought he could play games and balance his wife and his mistress.

I pushed the box away. "I don't need it."

"Why can't you just be reasonable? You're more difficult than all those other drama queens combined."

Dante finally lost his patience and slammed the bathroom door.

He didn't understand. I was agreeable before because I trusted him.

Now, I was being difficult because I had no intention of ever forgiving him.

As the celebration approached, I got busier and busier and barely saw Dante.

But someone was always there to give me updates on his every move.

【He introduced me to some of the family's business partners today. They all loved me. Why do you think they never liked you?】

【You have no idea how thrilling his office can be. My legs were shaking.】

【Guess where I am? The jazz bar where you two used to go on dates. He said I'm the only one who really understands his taste.】
