On the eve of the wedding, my fiancé tested my loyalty

Chapter 2

Grabbing my car keys, I floored it to The Ridge.

The Ridge was Shawn's other place, where he was housing the groomsmen.

They were having a party there tonight.

Shawn was there.

And Chelsea was there too.

I could see them by the pool through the iron gate.

Shawn looked drunk, his handsome face flushed.

His eyes were glazed as he leaned in and whispered something in Chelsea's ear.

Chelsea pouted and playfully shoved him into the pool.

The groomsmen who were watching cheered.

Shawn surfaced, shaking the water out of his hair, and grinned wickedly.

He grabbed Chelsea's ankle and dragged her into the pool.

As she screamed, he picked her up and pinned her against the side of the pool, kissing her passionately.

The crowd went wild.

Someone popped a bottle of champagne, someone else set off fireworks.

Someone even mentioned my name in a joking manner.

"Shawn, you're getting married to Lindsay in two days! Is it okay to be making out with her best friend?"

"Hahaha, as long as you and I don't say anything, Shawn could hook up with Chelsea right here, and Lindsay wouldn't be any wiser."

"The Shawn we all know and love is back! The way you were crawling to Lindsay, acting like she was the only one for you – was that all an act? I thought you had turned over a new leaf!"

Shawn finally ended the long kiss.

His voice was husky and seductive, with a lazy, playful edge.

"I do love Lindsay. She's the only woman I want to marry. I can pamper her, love her, grow old with her. But, to expect her to be celibate when she's so young..."

Shawn laughed and kissed Chelsea, who was breathing heavily on his shoulder, loudly.

"I can't do it."

Shawn carried Chelsea out of the pool and set her down on a lounge chair.

Someone rushed to drape a towel around him, and Shawn used it to cover Chelsea.

Someone asked, "Shawn, are you even going home tonight?"

Chelsea looked at Shawn with wide, watery eyes.

Shawn crouched down and playfully pinched her cheek.

"Lindsay cares about Chelsea more than she cares about me. Since Chelsea's upset, of course I'm staying here with her."

He waved his hand behind him. "Kyle, text my girl. Tell her I'm drunk and sleeping here tonight, and I'll pick her up tomorrow for the rehearsal."

As tears streamed down my face, my phone buzzed.

Kyle sent a message: [Lindsay, Shawn's hammered and won't be coming home tonight. Get some sleep. He'll pick you up for the rehearsal tomorrow.]

I stood there for a long time.

I thought about a lot of things.

My parents died when I was very young, and I was raised by my aunt and uncle.

My cousin used to bully me, and my aunt turned a blind eye.

Chelsea would tell on him when I was too scared to. Chelsea would throw the punches I was too scared to throw.

I was smarter than Chelsea when it came to school.

I shared half of my prize money with her.

She was an only child who didn't really like to study.
