"You don't need to use such methods to deal with a girl."
Arthur brought up this topic before we went to sleep.
"You should have told me first."
I sat at the dressing table, grooming my hair, and stared at the handsome man in the mirror.
"You knew I liked that necklace, but you gave it to another woman, shouldn't I be angry?"
I can’t imagine if someone as perfect as him were to be tainted, whether I could still admire him as much as before.
Arthur was calm and unhurried, and went to the bar to pour himself a glass of ice water.
"She cried all night because of your misunderstanding.
"This morning, when I saw her eyes were swollen, I gave her the necklace as compensation."
There wasn’t a single flaw.
I examined him coldly for a long time.
Two million, to us, was just a small amount, and it made sense to give it to someone.
It just depends on whether the other person is worth it.
The man tapped his fingertip on the marble countertop.
He was waiting for me to think.
This was the first time we had a conflict in our relationship because of a third party. From the education and cultivation we had received as children, we both felt a little tired of this.
We were both people who valued our image.
"Arthur Pierce, I love you."
Arthur’s finger paused.
He probably hadn't expected me to say that suddenly.
"Arthur, I love the spotless you. This is what makes you different from others.
"You never let women get close to you before, because you have an emotional cleanliness, and you want a clean marriage. I wasn’t like this before, but your values influenced me. Now, our life goals are the same.
"I hope your marriage will never have any crossroads."
Arthur said helplessly: "I haven’t."
Arthur was a very clear-headed person.
He knew I minded, so he wouldn’t give Seraphina any more illusions.
Without the President's support, Seraphina, as an intern, could only start with the most basic work.
She used to have the opportunity to take turns in the general office.
Now, Mr. Lee wouldn't schedule her at all.
I didn’t tell anyone to ostracize her.
Since Arthur had a sense of propriety, I completely believed him.
But this kind of thing, it didn’t require my instructions.
Climbing on high and stepping on low, there were many people who did that.
Within half a month, this new secretary couldn't bear the work gap and the psychological blow, and had lost a lot of weight.
The turning point occurred after an important high-level meeting.
That day, Seraphina was assigned to clean up the small meeting room by herself.
The girl was wearing a suit and skirt, kneeling on the ground, and using a blade, she was laboriously cleaning the chewing gum from the carpet.
This scene was caught by Arthur, who had temporarily returned.
Realizing that someone was behind her, the girl scrambled to get up, looking embarrassed.
Arthur's gaze was deep and cold.
Such a silent stare made Seraphina’s self-esteem vanish.
"Mr. Pierce."
The girl's tears fell automatically.
She neither performed nor pretended.
Arthur had been the sun that she had yearned for but couldn't touch, and when she was marginalized, she had almost accepted her fate.
Now, her appearance was seen by the man.
Seraphina wanted to push Arthur away and rush out the door.
Half a month later, the originally cheerful and lively girl was already so fragile.
This was the first time Arthur had lost his temper.
He returned home and slammed the water glass I had handed him onto the ground.
The water splashed.
"Why won’t you let her go?
"Clara, I respect and love you, and I have tolerated your insults and harm to her time and time again.
"Does bullying the weak bring you any pleasure?"
I remembered that, during Arthur's study abroad period, his younger sister, who was in junior high school, committed suicide because of bullying.
This became a scar that he couldn’t erase from his heart, and he was deeply disgusted by this.
"Clara, don't let me see you use these methods to hurt others anymore, or I won’t stand by and watch!"
I was stunned and looked at the emotionally out-of-control man in front of me.
For the first time after the wedding, Arthur lost his mind and control because of a woman, and because of something I hadn't done, he had lost his temper with me.
This feeling was very uncomfortable.
It was like, the glass had shattered.
It was like, there was no way to get it back.
