Sophia pressed on, her voice wheedling. "If you don't come get me, I'll have to walk."
Julian hesitated. I knew that look. The old Julian would have already told me to get out of the car.
His usual line was, "It's easy to get a cab in the city center. Sophia's place is way out there. I have to go get her. You can just grab a taxi."
I saw the conflict on his face and decided to make it easy for him. "Go get her. You can just drop me off at the next corner."
