“Serves you right!” my father grumbled, though the veins on the back of his hand were bulging. “Maybe a little hardship out there will make you appreciate how protected you were in your own pack.”
His face was so dark he looked like he wanted to hunt Kaelen down and tear him to pieces.
My mother hugged me tightly. “It’s okay, you’re home now. Don’t think about those unhappy things. It was just a stupid amulet. Mom will find you more powerful ones. You can wear a different one every day.”
