The two pregnancies became the center of attention, the talk of the town. Some even placed bets on the outcome. No one had forgotten Damian’s prophecy.

My father cared more for Chloe than for me. He frequently invited her over, feeding her the finest restorative foods. The honor of the family was at stake, and even he seemed to accept that my child would not be of a high bloodline.
