He took my life jacket

He took my life jacket

Chapter 2

Their love for my brother was immense.

The contrast with their treatment of me was stark.

The truth was, both my brother and I were adopted.

My parents' biological son had drowned years ago.

They were heartbroken beyond belief.

My sister Chloe cried constantly, begging for a little brother.

After a few years, they decided to adopt a boy.

That's how they came to the orphanage where I lived.

Standing by the orphanage gate, I had a sudden feeling.

I turned my head.

Just then, I saw a car speeding towards them in the distance.

I screamed for them to freeze.

The car screeched past right in front of them.

Afterwards, they patted their chests in relief.

"Thank goodness for you," they told me.

"It must be fate."

"Will you be our son?"

"We promise to be good to you forever."

My heart filled with warmth.

I nodded eagerly, filled with endless hope.

I was finally going to have a family.

The next six months were the happiest of my life.

They cared for me.

They loved me.

Mom cooked my favorite meals herself.

Chloe taught me piano and drawing every day.

I thought I would be happy like that forever.

Then one day, they brought another boy home.

The moment he saw me, he started to cry hysterically.

Chloe was furious.

She pushed me hard, sending me sprawling.

"You scared Justin!" she yelled.

My parents were annoyed.

They just told me to get lost and stop bothering them.

He easily took everything from me.

I was moved from my own bedroom to a tiny guest room.

I became invisible in my own home.

Chloe held his hand protectively.

"Justin is my only little brother!" she declared.

My parents also said softly.

"He looks so much like him," they murmured.

"Justin is the angel sent to compensate us."

That's when I learned.

Justin's eyes and brows looked just like their biological son's face.

Just for a similar face, he got all the love.

How happy must their real son have been?

Now, on the dock, my father was still yelling at me.

He called me difficult and stubborn.

He called me a total ingrate.

A rescue worker walked over, his face dark.

"The priority is finding him!" he said sharply.

"Don't you realize he might be in danger right now?"

"What kind of father are you?"

Chloe immediately scoffed.

"I personally handed him a life vest," she argued.

"He can't possibly be in trouble."

Mom jumped in, defending Justin.

"Everyone else is fine, only him?" she said.

"He must be hiding on purpose."

The rescue worker was absolutely furious.

His face turned pale with anger.

He turned and walked away to prepare for a search at sea.

Suddenly, a little girl stepped out of the crowd.

She looked scared, but she pointed at my brother Justin.

She shouted loudly.

"I saw him push Daniel off the boat!" she cried.

"He's wearing Daniel's life vest!"

I never expected it.

The one person who would speak up for me.

It was a little girl I'd met briefly on the cruise.

My parents' faces went pale.

A flicker of panic crossed Justin's face.

He quickly denied it.

"I had my own life vest!" he insisted.

"Why would I take my brother's?"
