Lost journey

Chapter 3

If he could betray me so cruelly, stomp all over our marriage, then I wouldn't waste another second on him.

I swallowed my pain and called a friend who's a divorce lawyer.

After having the divorce papers drafted, I started gathering all the evidence of his affair, telling myself to stay calm and fight for the best outcome for me and my son.

Just as I had everything in order, my "on-a-business-trip" husband finally came home.

Except I didn't see him in our apartment.

I saw him in the park downstairs.

I had taken the baby out for some fresh air.

In the distance, under a large oak tree, I saw two figures wrapped in a passionate kiss.

As I got closer, I realized the man was my husband.

I froze for a second, then pulled out my phone and started recording.

A cat brushed past my leg, and the slight noise made them jump.

Alex saw me, and his face went white with shock and panic.

He shoved the woman away from him.

"Emily, what... what are you doing here?" he stammered, rushing toward me.

"Honey, it's not what it looks like," he sputtered, unable to form a coherent sentence.

The woman behind him took a few steps forward, looping her arm through his.

"Hi there," she said with a sickly sweet smile. "I'm Vanessa. It's so nice to finally meet you."

I ignored her, my eyes locked on Alex.

"We're getting a divorce," I said coldly.

The color drained from Alex's face. He shook Vanessa's arm off and grabbed mine.

"Emily, I'm so sorry. I swear, she means nothing to me. I don't love her, I only love you!"

Vanessa shot me a venomous glare, then suddenly clutched her stomach, her face twisting in pain.

"Alex, honey, my stomach... my ulcer is acting up again. It hurts so much..."

Alex hesitated, looking torn, then turned to me with pleading eyes.

A bitter laugh died in my throat. I pulled my arm from his grasp.

"Go on," I said, my voice flat. "Take her to the hospital."

Just then, our son started wailing from his stroller, his little face turning purple, but Alex barely noticed. His eyes were fixed on Vanessa.

"Honey, just wait for me," he said hurriedly. "I promise I'll come back and make it up to you. We're not getting a divorce."

Without another word, he scooped Vanessa into his arms and rushed off.

Our son's cries grew louder behind him, but he didn't slow down, didn't even glance back before disappearing from sight.

I let out a hollow laugh.

The man who swore to spend his life with me had just abandoned his own crying child for another woman.

In that single moment, our entire marriage became a joke.

Whatever was left between us was now officially over.

From now on, I was living for myself and for my son.

I gently soothed my baby, and once his crying softened, I took him back upstairs.

Methodically, I packed our bags and placed the divorce papers I'd prepared on the living room table.

Then, I settled my son into his baby carrier and picked up the suitcase.

And I walked out of that apartment without a single look back.
