Under the faint light

Chapter 4

Mike didn't notice anything was wrong. "I heard you had an earthquake. Is everyone okay? How's Sarah? I tried calling, but the phone wasn't working."

Mike said that he had been in an accident six months ago.

He had woken up with amnesia.

Recently, his memories had started to return.

He was planning to come home, but then the earthquake hit.

"Can you check on Sarah for me? I'm worried she's scared."

Scared?

I looked down and smirked.

Not a chance.

My phone screen showed a Facebook post.

Sarah had just posted it.

Tom had taken her to the house we had bought for our son.

I was furious.

The house wasn't in the epicenter of the earthquake.

It hadn't been badly damaged.

We had worked hard and paid cash for that house.

We were waiting for our son to turn eighteen to transfer the title to him.

After our son's death, we would go to the house and clean it, pretending our son was still alive.

After the earthquake, I would rather live in a tent than go to that house.

Tom had brought Sarah to desecrate our son's memory!

I rushed over there.

The house was filled with Sarah's belongings.

Our son's basketball and jerseys had been tossed on the floor.

I was shaking.

I picked up Sarah's suitcases and threw them outside!

Tom and Sarah came out.

Sarah turned pale. "Lisa, why are you throwing my stuff?"

Tom grabbed my wrist.

"Lisa, what's wrong with you?"

I stared at him. "Tom, do you remember what we said? Nothing in this house could be touched. How sad would our son be if he saw this?"

Tom frowned, his voice softening. "Lisa, our son is gone, but we need to move on with our lives. We can't let the dead hold us back."

I backed away, laughing.

Tom continued, "If it bothers you, I'll have Sarah stay in the guest room."

"That won't be necessary."

I knelt down and picked up our son's belongings, packing them in a box. I left!

A few days later, Tom texted me.

"I booked tickets for my and Sarah's honeymoon, come to the airport and see us off."

I said yes.

That day, I saw that many of our friends were there.

They stared at me, smirking.

They were waiting to see me humiliated.

I didn't show any emotion.

"Tom is loyal, taking care of his best friend's widow. He really did something special, I'm very proud to support them both, so I have a gift for them, as well."

As I finished speaking, a man walked out from the crowd.

Everyone gasped when they saw his face.

Tom and Sarah looked as if they had seen a ghost.

I showed no emotion.

Next to me stood Sarah's husband, Mike.
