On the edge of love and amnesia

Chapter 5

The next day, I bought some clothes and shoes, found a place to rent, and then went to my company to resign.

According to company policy, I had to give a month's notice, so I waited.

For the next two weeks, I didn't know if Ryan was still tending to Aubrey, but he never showed his face.

Ryan finally appeared at the company's mid-year review meeting, held at a hotel.

After the meeting, we had dinner at the hotel, as usual, but the atmosphere at the table was strangely tense.

Many colleagues kept glancing between me and Ryan. Most of them had just attended our wedding and given us gifts only weeks before.

They all knew what had happened to me.

They knew about the loss of my baby.

Ryan, however, remained completely composed, not sparing me a single glance throughout the entire evening.

It wasn't until our colleagues raised their glasses to toast the company's prosperity that I picked up a glass of red wine.

He never liked me drinking. Ever since we got together, I hadn't touched a drop.

Now, I finally could be myself again.

As I finished my third glass, Ryan's face turned icy. He stormed over, snatched my glass, and smashed it on the floor.

"Avery, are you insane?"

"You're pregnant, and you dare to drink alcohol?"

"Do you even deserve to be a mother?"

The words hung in the air, solidifying the already tense atmosphere.

Then, everyone's gaze shifted to Ryan, and their expressions slowly began to change.
