Chipotle adds vegetarian, vegan bowls to its Lifestyle lineup – San Bernardino County Sun

Chipotle Mexican Grill has expanded its line of Lifestyle Bowls with two “Plant-Powered” offerings.

Both feature Sofritas, the braised tofu the fast food chain introduced as a meat-free option in all its dishes in 2013.

The Vegetarian Bowl also includes brown rice, pinto beans, tomato and roasted chili corn salsas, sour cream and guacamole.

The Vegan Bowl includes brown rice, black beans, tomato and corn salsa, and lettuce.

A spot check on Chipotle’s website shows that both cost about $8.

These bowls won’t appear on menu boards inside Chipotle restaurants, according to the company, but like other Lifestyle Bowls can be ordered at its website or on Chipotle’s app. The company, newly relocated from Denver to Newport Beach, has been working to increase its online sales in recent months.

Chipotle introduced Lifestyle Bowls in early January. They are what the company called preconfigured, made from a list of ingredients rather than the custom-made bowls, burritos and tacos on which the company built its reputation.

Chipotle’s other Lifestyle Bowls are aimed at people who follow ketogenic diets (high fat, low carbs); paleo diets (foods that could be enjoyed by primitive hunter-gatherers); high protein diets; and the Whole30 diet (30 days of unprocessed or minimally processed foods).
