EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – When it comes to wellness products, CBD, a cannabis-derived ingredient, is on the rise both locally and nationally.
Ambary Health Southwest opened in West El Paso's Montecillo community less than two weeks ago. The shop features products that come from cannabis, but don't contain marijuana.
"These products contain most of the medicinal properties of the marijuana plant except for the substance known as THC, which is a psychoactive component on marijuana," owner Marlene Jessup explains.
Jessup tells KTSM that she opened the shop with the intention of making it family-friendly.
The native El Pasoan says the shop's oils, creams, and other products can help treat different health concerns including inflammation, pain, anxiety, and seizures.
However, unlike marijuana, using the products will not get customers high.
"All of our products are hemp-derived and legal to purchase," Jessup said. "Anybody young or old can come in here and buy the products."
Marijuana research firm Greenwave Advisors anticipates the CBD industry to reach $3 billion dollars by 2021 in the U.S. But Jessup says isn't all about the money.
"This was never just about selling products — I'm absolutely convinced that this is going to change people's lives," she said.
Located at 110 Montecillo Ste. A, Ambary Health Southwest is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 to 6 p.m. and Thursdays through Saturdays from 12 to 7 p.m.
