It’s easy to get wrapped up in the shiny newness of the latest makeup launches and completely overlook the hidden gems that have been sitting pretty on the already-packed shelves of your favorite beauty store. Thankfully, Sephora beauty directors Jeffrey English, David Razzano, and Myiesha Sewell, who’ve spent countless hours poring over products on the shelves, know exactly which ones are worth scooping up. What I’m trying to say is, don’t sleep on the below 13 products or you might just be missing out on greatness.

1

Nudestix Clean-Up Pencil

sephora.com
$24.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: This pencil is English’s favorite tool for erasing makeup mistakes. “I’ve found that carrying it with me eliminates the need for liquid makeup remover, which can be heavy when on a film set or photoshoot. Its lightweight balm texture makes it easy to quickly fix eyeliner, lip liner smudges, and mascara fall out.”

HOW TO USE IT: Draw this pencil directly on top of the area you’d like to erase, then take a cotton bud or tissue to gently wipe to remove it.

Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara

ulta.com
$20.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: The aptly named Cannonball mascara is English’s all-time fave because of its extreme waterproof protection. “It’s great for humid days or rooftop pool parties, and you don’t have to worry about any smudging or fall out, “English says. “This formula is also packed with lash-enhancing fibers that build onto the [hairs] like scaffolding, making them reach higher and higher.”

HOW TO USE IT: Use this formula alone or layered over a volumizing formula, especially if you prefer a fuller look. “I build, move, and layer the fibers until I’m happy with the look; once the product dries, it’s locked in place,” English says.

Sephora Collection Melting Lip Clicks

sephora.com

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: If you’re not one for bold lip colors, you’ll love this choice, which English calls a tinted moisturizer for the lips.I love lightweight, hydrating lip products for the day time,” the beauty director says. “This one offers a cushiony, comforting color with a soft shine that makes the lips look fuller.”

HOW TO USE IT: Unlike a twist up or squeeze tube, this lipstick comes packaged with a click bottom dispenser, which prevents you from wasting product when applying, according to English.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

nordstrom.com
$35.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: English swears by this dual-tone concealer compact for its ability to cover anything—inflamed blemishes, tattoos, marks, you name it.

HOW THE PROS USE IT: The beauty director suggests two ways of using this concealer duo: custom blend the two shades with a brush or small sponge to create the right skin tone for you, or use one to color correct first and the other to conceal on top. Finish with setting powder to lock it into place.

Laura Mercier Lip Pencil

nordstrom.com
$25.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: These pencils are a permanent item in Razzano’s professional makeup kit (especially the shade “True Red”). “They have a unique formula that is firm enough to create a perfectly precise lip line, while being creamy and easy to blend,” the beauty director says.

HOW THE PROS USE IT: Of course, you could use the pencil only for lining the lips, but Razzano suggests using it over the entire lip as a lipstick, since it’s smooth and pigmented enough to do so.

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: When you think of face oil, a stick applicator is probably the last thing that comes to mind, but Razzano says this solid form is perfect for targeting hydration on both the face and body without leaving a greasy mess.

HOW THE PROS USE IT:  Razzano loves to apply this oil on both bare skin and on top of makeup to make skin look super healthy and glowy. Use it to dew up your cheeks, décolleté, or even lips.

Becca Sunlit Bronzer

sephora.com
$38.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: “These are my go-to bronzers because the tones are so unique and easy to use,” Sewell says. “The lightest shade ‘Bali Sands’ never looks orange, and blends beautifully on the fairest of skin tones. The deepest shade ‘Maui Nights’ is a deep reddish-brown that adds the perfect amount of warmth to deep skin tones.”

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel

ulta.com
$24.00

WHY IT’S SO GREAT: “As someone with naturally sparse brows, I always skipped brow gel thinking it wasn’t going to do anything for me,” Sewell says. “Gimme Brow thickens and shades what little brow hair I have, making [my arches] look thick with a 3D-effect. It also has solid yet non-sticky hold so I get a subtly fluffy brow.”

HOW THE PROS USE IT: Sewell says that even those with sparse brows can skip using a brow pencil with this volumizing gel. Wipe off any formula excess on the brush applicator (you can use the neck of the bottle to squeegee it), then swipe it through your brow hairs to build up the thickness of them.
